Can you really use a Wal-Mart Moneycard (Green Dot) online?

So does anyone with personal experience know that you can? I’m not talking about Paypal, but just for sites like Amazon and Threadless, that ask for credit/debit. I’d hate to buy another card and have it not work for what I want it to.
